In the world of fashion, there are stories hidden within the seams, tales that unfold with every thread stitched and every fabric draped. These stories often mirror the journey of the designer, their dreams, inspirations, and aspirations woven into every garment. Today, I invite you to step into my world, where fashion becomes a canvas for self-expression and self-discovery.
The first few years of my transition into textiles and design were a whirlwind of experimentation and self-discovery. It was a period of unleashing a flood of ideas that had long been tucked away, waiting to be shared with the world. My inspiration? To embody the divine energy I had admired in the goddesses of my culture, and to empower women and girls to feel like heroes in their own stories, to walk with confidence, and to embrace their multifaceted selves.
As I delved into the technical aspects of fashion design, I embarked on a mission to create a collection that would represent the different facets of myself. Each piece held a unique story and was a canvas for my vivid imagination. The creative process was a joyful ride, allowing me to explore the boundless possibilities of self-expression.
Little did I know that these creations, born from a place of self-exploration, would find their way to the runway. In fact, I had never intended them to be showcased in such a public setting. Subconsciously, I had left each piece slightly unfinished, tucked away in the confines of my wardrobe, a secret treasure chest of emotions and memories that I had kept hidden for so long.
It was a casual conversation with a friend that changed the course of these pieces' destiny. As I shared my journey and the stories behind these hidden treasures, my friend encouraged me to showcase them in an upcoming fashion show. The idea was daunting. I had never done a runway show before, and the prospect of revealing these deeply personal creations to the world filled me with a mix of excitement and apprehension.
Then, fate intervened in a most serendipitous way. The name of the show was "Goddesses and Superheroes." I couldn't help but laugh out loud, recognizing it as a clear sign from the universe. These pieces, which I had hidden away, needed to be seen and shared, for they embodied the essence of goddesses and the strength of superheroes.
There is a lot to do for the fashion show, and I'm learning as I go. Once I have the pictures, I will be sharing the story behind each piece with all of you.
But there's another beautiful twist to this journey. My daughter, who had never seen these designs as she was a baby when I was learning to draft them, was recently so excited to try each one. I felt an overwhelming happiness witnessing her twirl in the very creations I had poured my heart into.
It all began when I was pregnant with her, and now it's a full circle moment of her trying on my creations and embodying the essence of the goddesses I had envisioned. All the hard work was just worth it for that moment of connection and shared creativity.
So, here I stand, on the brink of unveiling a collection that is not just a showcase of fashion but a reflection of my journey to self-discovery and healing. These pieces are a testament to the power of self-expression and the beauty that emerges when we allow ourselves to embrace every facet of who we are by living our truth and creating magic.
In the coming weeks, I will be introducing each piece on Social media and sharing its unique story with you all. Stay tuned as we embark on this incredible journey together, celebrating self-expression, empowerment, and creativity.
